Personally I like McAfee SiteAdvisor when it comes to monitoring my searches so I don't find myself on a bad site, but it turns out you can actually use Google to check a site. This is probably a better solution since you can't be sure you have site checking software installed on every computer you use (unless you use a portable browser), though installed safe browsing software has its perks because I don't believe you can combine the following with a search for any site.
How to do it? Well here's an example checking google.com itself:
http://google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=google.com
Now we know how Google safe searching works, that is--Google does checking on the sites it has indexed. Can't seem to find an option for checking on their page, so you haft to use the following URL above, replacing the site parameter with the site you want to look up in your address bar.
